Physical Development

Children are provided with opportunities to be active and interactive and to improve their skills of co-ordination, control, manipulation and movement. They are supported in developing an understanding of the importance of physical activity and making healthy choices in relation to food. Small games apparatus, trikes, scooters and balance bikes in our outside learning area are all used to support children in their development of gross motor skills. The children have two PE sessions a week, one being teacher led and the other session is taught by a sports company called EPC. Both sessions are designed to develop children's gross motor skills and team building skills through the following sports:

multi-skills, gymnastics, dance, football, tennis and athletic skills.

In the Autumn Term, we pay particular attention to developing the children's fine motor skills. These are developed through mark making, tracing, colouring, drawing, painting, cutting, threading, dough, the use of pegs and tweezers as well as many other aspects of manipulative play. Dough Disco sessions are also used at the start of the Autumn Term.
